There are also semi crazed survivors (started out as a military rescue group that got left behind and who have been written off by the outside world) as well as a family (grandpa, daughter, two grand daughters) that have major roles.Īt times the movie blends elements of Road Warrior and Fast & Furious, along with most "fast zombie" films.

Of course the infected remain as a major issue. The local crime boss (American, apparently) offers them and two other Korean refugees a share of the proceeds if they go back to South Korea and recover a truck reputedly filled with cash. There is the almost obligatory outbreak on the ship that costs the life of the officer's sister and son.Ĥ8 months later the officer and his brother in law are living as refugees (without legal status) in Hong Kong. Instead of going to Japan the ship is diverted to Hong Kong. They ignore those in need on there way and put out to sea. It starts with the focus on a Korean military officer driving his sister's family to an evacuation point. If there had ever been a 28 Months Later sequel of 28 Days Later, it might have been similar to this movie. So I give it four stars as stand alone and 3 stars as a sequel (good but not great). This movie is a sequel in the same universe and is a good film, but does not hit the same notes as the original. Train to Busan is one of the best zombie movies (if not movies in general) in recent years. Daegu in a Daewoo? Rickshaw to Daejeon? Something like that. Or why not do a Romero approach and roll with a (blank)of the dead to their titles but with different modes of Transportation for future movies. Why not call it Boat to Incheon? That would have been a more accurate title. I don't understand why they went with the title they did. Middle of the Horde, not the best, not the worst. I gave them 4 stars for their effort and cool action sequences, but I really think this movie is only about 31/2 stars at best. Compared to its predecessor though, it is a mediocre effort that won't stay with you like Train to Busan did. Overall, not the worst zombie film ever made, I have seen much, much worse.

It would have been better if they used real cars whenever they could Baby Driver style, but hey, the action is still pretty entertaining. That's right, it seems the main way to fight zombies in this film is with cars, which is awesome, but the CGI car sequences are a bit unbelievable and cheapen the effect. There is also some super melodramatic pieces at the end that are a bit much, and it feels forced because we haven't spent that much time with the characters other than running from zombies or hitting them with cars. The problem is the film can't keep it up and it seemed like it didn't know what to do with their characters towards the end. It was described to me as Escape from New York meets South Korean zombie film, what is there not to love about that? The first 45-1 hour is pretty solid, and if you like Zombie films as much as I do, you should enjoy it also. However, the original Train to Busan is excellent if you have not seen that.

I enjoy dumb fun movies just as much as anybody. They threw together something that could be called a script by stealing storylines from far better films, tossed together a movie with lousy action sequences loaded with CGI comparable to 90's b-movies like Mortal Kombat, and slap the name "Train to Busan" on it so that people would waste their hard earned money to watch it and the makers could cash in. This movie was a money grab, pure and simple. Just one problem: I could care less about our hero, because it's obvious that director Yeon Sang-Ho and company didn't care about the movie they created. The gangster sends in a team of "experts" who are actually morons to retrieve the money and get trapped in the heart of zombie nation instead. Plot is simply stupid: A gangster finds out there is a van filled with millions of dollars in the heart of the Korean peninsula a few years after the events of the original film. The story itself seems to be a poorly executed hybrid of "Escape From New York" and Neil Marshall's 2008 film "Doomsday" with arguably no originality of its own. What really makes this such a huge disappoint is that this is the sequel to arguably one of the best zombie movies ever made. Bad writing, bad CGI, bad acting, bad all the way around.
